What you and your family need to survive a crisis

the survival prep store
Most people tend to be complacent. We’ve been so conditioned into turning the faucet on and having clean water come out whenever we need it, that we have difficulty imagining that it could be any other way. But what if there was an emergency: an earthquake, tornado, hurricane, collapse of the economy, or terrorist attack - are you prepared? Mother Nature can be beautiful but she can also be tempestuous, as anyone who has lived through a hurricane, earthquake, or tornado can tell you.
But besides what Mother Nature can throw at us, there is also increasing concern about the financial stability of America. With exploding national debt, a decline in manufacturing, and a growing number of Americans being counted among the poor, it’s evident to most people that America has been headed for a possible economic meltdown.
With financial institutions such as JP Morgan predicting a financial crisis in 2020, and financial advisor Ben Reppond, head of Reppond investments projecting bad times in 2020, some Americans have been stockpiling food and survival gear. Have you?
As much as we try to think otherwise, this does not seem to be a time for a rosy outlook. Let’s take a look at what you and your family would need to survive a natural or man-made event according to the Red Cross:
  1. Water: one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2 week supply for home
  2. Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
  3. Flashlight
  4. Batter-powered or hand-crank radio
  5. Extra batteries
  6. Medications (7-day supply) and medical items
  7. Multi-purpose tool
  8. Sanitation and personal hygiene items
  9. Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies.)
  10. Cell phone with chargers
  11. Family and emergency contact information
  12. Extra cash
  13. Emergency blanket
  14. Maps of the area
In addition, consider the needs of all family members and add supplies to your kit:
15. Medical supplies (hearing aids with extra batteries, glasses, contact lenses, syringes, etc)
16. Baby supplies (bottles, formula, baby food, diapers)
17. Games and activities for children
18. Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowl)
19. Two-way radios
20. Extra set of car keys and house keys
21. Manual can opener
Don’t be the only family on the block who hasn’t prepared; in these uncertain times, take steps now to protect your family. Secure your supply of emergency food, and water storage now.
